The Nanny Diaries

The story revolves around a young woman, simply known as Nanny, who takes on the challenging role of caring for the only son of the wealthy X family.

Struggling to graduate from NIU and afford her small apartment, Nanny accepts the position of caregiver for the Ks family. Her responsibilities include making sure that the Park Avenue woman who isn't working, cleaning, cooking or raising her child has a quiet day. As the Xes family's marriage begins to fall apart, Nanny faces an almost impossible mission: maintaining their four-year-old son's mental health, preserving her own integrity, and most importantly, keeping her sense of humor intact.

Written by two former nannies, Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Krauss, The Nanny Diaries provides an insider's look at the real lives of the rich and privileged. In a humorous way, it exposes the absurdity of overprivileged parenting, as if preparing children for competition at its best.

The novel was adapted into a major motion picture starring Scarlett Johansson and Laura Linney.
