The National Museum of Belgrade is a jewel of the cultural heritage of the Balkans, and this book allows you to take a peek into its rich collection.

The book contains:

  • Prehistory: The book includes more than 300 books older than 1800. Also, you can see books made from bamboo, paper from elephant dung, edible rice books and many other unusual examples.
  • Antiquity: This section explores ancient Greece and Roman civilizations. Books with carved wood covers, as well as books with teak leaves and hand-made paper from various Asian and African tribes are on display.
  • The Middle Ages: The book also covers the period of the Middle Ages, including the art of the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires.
  • New century and modern era: Exhibits from the period of the new century, including art of the 20th century, are presented here.
