Das bekannteste Buch dieses Schriftstellers ist „Ciciban“, das zu einem Klassiker der slowenischen Kinderliteratur geworden ist.

Oton Župančić schuf die Figur des Ciciban, inspiriert von Kindheit und Natur. Sein fantasievolles Gedicht „Ciciban und die Biene“ beschreibt die Begegnung zwischen dem Jungen Ciciban und der Biene. Durch diese Geschichte vermittelte Župančić seine Liebe zur Natur, seine Neugier und die Wunder der Kindheit. Ciciban wurde zum Symbol für Unschuld, Neugier und den Zauber der Kindheit, und seine Abenteuer hinterließen tiefe Spuren in den Herzen vieler Generationen von Lesern.
