Kameni spavač

Kameni spavač

Mak Dizdar

"Stone sleeper" was created on the basis of the poetic impulse of thoughts expressed in the poem "Mother" from 1954. Dizdar also found inspiration for his songs in the stećci that Bosnia abounds.

From a young age, the poet was fascinated by the ornaments on them, which is why the work is called "The Stone Sleeper", because the "Stone Sleeper" is a monument that stands on the ground. These monuments are an eternal memory of those who once lived and are a reminder that one day we will all meet our end and get our own monument.

The collection consists of four entries: "Letter on Man", "Letter on Heaven", "Letter on Earth" and "Letter on Letter". In the collection, the poet brought elements from the entire Bosnian-Herzegovinian literature. The poet was a great believer and the strongest messages he sends are based on faith. The poet warns individuals to learn the truth about true values, that true values are not material ones, and that we must live in faith if we want to have peace and blessing in the soul.
