Robert James Waller

The Bridges of Madison County is a 1992 best-selling romance novel by American writer Robert James Waller that tells the story of an Italian-American World War II war bride living on a farm in 1960s Madison County, Iowa.

In the hot summer of 1965, Robert Kincaid, a freelance photographer, drives his pickup truck on the roads of Iowa in search of eight covered bridges to photograph for National Geographic magazine. Unable to find the latter, he turns to a woman he noticed on the porch of a house for help. It was Francesca Johnson. During that short meeting, they both felt an unusual attraction that brought unrest into their minds... This touching love story, published this time in Večernjak's library, was also transferred to the screen in 1995, with Clint Eastwood (and director) and Meryl Streep in the lead roles.
