Nathaniel Harris

Chagall Marc, francuski slikar i grafičar bjeloruskog podrijetla.

Studirao u Sankt Peterburgu, Berlinu i Parizu, gdje boravi od 1910. Razvija intenzivnu slikarsku, grafičku i scenografsku djelatnost u Francuskoj, Njemačkoj, Rusiji, Americi; od 1946. ponovno je u Francuskoj. Formirao osebujan likovni izraz u ozračju kubizma, ekspresionizma, simboličnog misticizma i nadrealizma. Nadahnut ruskim pučkim legendama i folklorom, trajno opsjednut uspomenama na provincijski židovski okoliš iz djetinjstva u Vitebsku i fantazmagoričnim priviđenjima, rafiniranom je senzibilnošću i imaginacijom stvorio originalna umjetnička djela, koja fasciniraju mješavinom groteske i senzibilne poezije te osebujnim koloritom. Radio freske u pariškoj Operi i novoj zgradi Metropolitan Opere u New Yorku, vitraje u katedralama u Metzu, Reimsu, sinagogi u Jeruzalemu te u Palači UN-a u New Yorku. Radio scenografiju za ruske balete te kazališne predstave u europskim i američkim kazalištima. Chagallov muzej otvoren je u Nici 1969.
