Financijer

Theodore Dreiser

The financier follows the rise of Frank Cowperwood, an ambitious businessman who, thanks to his intelligence, courage and risk-taking, builds a financial empire despite numerous obstacles.

The Financier is the first novel of the famous Trilogy of Desire by Theodore Dreiser and one of the most important works of American realism. Inspired by the life of real-life financier Charles T. Yerkes, the novel provides a compelling account of the world of money, power and business ambitions in the second half of the 19th century.

The main character Frank Algernon Cowperwood shows an exceptional talent for finance from an early age. His ability to assess opportunities, willingness to take risks and strong ambition lead him to great business success, but also to conflict with social rules, politics and his own moral decisions.

Dreiser does not portray Cowperwood as a classical hero or villain. Instead, he creates a layered character whose actions are shaped by a desire for success, personal freedom, and continuous progress. Through his life story, the author explores the relationship between capital, social power, ethics and human nature.

The novel stands out for its detailed depiction of the financial world, political influences and social changes during the period of accelerated industrialization in the United States of America. At the same time, it provides a psychologically convincing portrait of a man who puts his own ambitions ahead of social expectations.

The financier is a classic that will attract fans of historical novels, social dramas and stories about the rise of an individual in the world of business. Dreiser's measured style and realistic approach make this work just as relevant today.
