Derviš i smrt je psihološki roman Meše Selimovića napisan u periodu od 1962. do 1966. godine i smatra se njegovim najuspešnijim delom.

Vreme zovem kao svedok, početak i kraj svega – da je svaki čovek uvek na gubitku, počinje i završava roman Selimović stihovima iz Kur'ana, zaokružujući time celinu, celokupno trajanje u vremenu u koji je čovek taj koji gubi. Ne može promeniti vreme, zaustaviti ga ili vratiti nazad. U ove okvire pisac stavlja svoju priču.
