Kafkin prijatelj

Kafkin prijatelj

Miro Gavran

Gavran's novel brings a strong emotional story about the friendship between two writers - Franz Kafka and Max Brod - and about the women who determined them by fate. Love and literature are constantly intertwined in the lives of sensitive heroes.

The novel is set in Prague in the period 1903 to 1924, and then in Tel Aviv in 1953. The author has described the first decades of the 20th century extremely convincingly - readers are presented with a nostalgic view of Central Europe, which has long since ceased to exist. Biographies of famous writers, in Gavran's interpretation, acquired completely different meanings. "Kafka's friend" is a novel with an unusual structure and an unusual literary procedure, which skillfully holds the reader's attention, because against the backdrop of dramatic events, the intimate fates of the young heroes seem both painful and surprising.
