Fiamengo, one of the pioneers of Croatian sociology, in this work approaches sociology from the perspective of Marxist theory, but with an emphasis on the autonomy of sociology as a scientific discipline. The book is structured in such a way that it covers fundamental concepts, methods and approaches in sociology, including the analysis of social structures, processes and institutions.
Special emphasis is placed on the sociology of religion and political sociology, areas in which Fiamengo made a significant contribution. He analyzed religion as a social phenomenon, linking it to the concepts of alienation and social change. In political sociology, he considered workers' self-management and the socialist model of society as a path towards liberation from class and bureaucratic structures.
Fiamengo also studied the theoretical heritage of the founders of modern sociology, such as Saint-Simon and Auguste Comte, thereby further enriching the theoretical framework of the book. His textbook remains relevant today, providing readers with a thorough understanding of sociological concepts and methods.
