Adamović used renowned French and German sources in the creation of the dictionary, including the dictionaries of Thibaut, Sachs, Villat, Petrović, Littre and the Dictionnaire général de la langue française by Hatzfeld, Darmesteter and Thomas.
Julije Adamović (1857–1940) was a prominent Croatian philologist, the first lector of French at the University of Zagreb and the founder of the Cercle français society. His contribution to the methodology of teaching foreign languages, especially French, left a significant mark on Croatian linguistic culture.
