Dugi brodovi

Dugi brodovi

Frans Bengetsson

It is an adventure-historical novel set in the Viking Age, which combines humor, action, historical facts, and mythological motifs.

The main character of the novel is Orm Tostesson, known as Red Orm – a young Viking from southern Sweden who grows up into a brave warrior and leader through a series of adventures. The story begins when he is kidnapped by Viking raiders and taken to sea, which changes his life forever. Orm eventually becomes part of a Viking company that wanders Europe – from pirate attacks on the Spanish coast, to serving at the court of the Muslim Caliph in Spain, to returning to Scandinavia. Throughout these adventures, he encounters various dangers, friendships, religions and cultures. An important part of the novel is his conversion to Christianity, which symbolizes larger historical changes in Scandinavia. In addition, Orm falls in love and starts a family, but his adventurous spirit never rests. The book shows how Orm copes with the challenges of running a family, Viking customs and the increasing influence of the new religion and political changes.
