Great illustrations of our favorites, their everyday lives, true stories in which some words are replaced with pictures.
The lion (Panthera leo) is a big cat and one of the most famous predators in the world, often called the "king of animals". Males are recognized by their characteristic mane, which can vary in color from light brown to almost black. Females are slightly smaller and without a mane, but they are the main hunters in the pack. Lions live in packs (adjectives), which sets them apart from most other cats, which are mostly loners. Such a social structure helps them to hunt and protect their young. They feed on large herbivores such as zebras, antelopes and buffaloes, and hunting usually takes place at night or in the early morning hours. The lion's natural habitat includes the savannas and grasslands of sub-Saharan Africa, while a small population of the Asiatic lion lives in India's Gir Reserve. Their main threats are habitat loss, conflicts with humans and poaching.
