Viša matematika (I dio, prvi svezak): Algebra i algebarska analiza
The book Higher Mathematics is a classic higher mathematics textbook for students of technical and natural sciences, written by the prominent Croatian mathematician Danilo Blanuša.
Focused on algebraic basics, the book builds the foundations for further mathematical disciplines, with an emphasis on rigor, examples and exercises. Main topics (by chapter):
- Chapter 1: Logic, sets and numbers: Basic concepts of mathematical logic (propositions, quantifiers), set theory (unions, intersections, functions), various types of numbers (natural, integer, real, complex) with proofs and constructions.
- Chapter 2: Series and series: Infinite series (convergence, limits), series (arithmetic, geometric, Taylor), convergence criteria, applications in analysis.
- Chapter 3: Determinants and matrices: Definitions, properties, inversions, ranking, solving systems of equations; examples from linear programming.
- Chapter 4: Vector algebra: Vectors in space, scalar and vector product, linear dependence, basics of linear spaces.
Blanuša highlights the pedagogical approach: theory with evidence, illustrations and tasks for independent solving. A key book for understanding algebraic analysis in the former Yugoslavia, it is still used in higher education.
