Amandino vjenčanje

Amandino vjenčanje

Jenny Colgan

A romantic comedy about friendship, love, and the chaotic attempts to save a good man from a bad marriage. A chick-lit hit, it reminds us that friendship saves more than any plan, and love comes unexpectedly.

The story takes place in 1990s London through the eyes of Melanie “Mel” Pepper, a twenty-something woman from South London who works a boring job at an advertising agency and lives with her friend Linda, who struggles with an eating disorder.

Mel and her best friend Fran are shocked to learn that their mean, ambitious Amanda – the queen of cruelty and a typical slob – is marrying Fraser, a kind Scottish nobleman and Mel’s former student sweetheart. Believing that Amanda only wants his status and money, they panic and launch a sabotage campaign: spreading false rumors and setting up awkward encounters at pre-wedding events in Scotland. They involve Fraser’s brother Angus, a gruff but lovable ally.

Mel struggles with complications: her boyfriend Alex, a greedy accountant with commitment issues, and her renewed feelings for Fraser. Fran becomes embroiled in an unconventional romance. The novel mixes humor and chaos – farcical scenes like Amanda trying to look like a witch at a wedding dress fitting – with themes of jealousy, friendship and self-discovery. The lively style, full of British sarcasm, makes the characters deep: Amanda is complex, and Melina's insecurities universal.
