Six people are murdered in the "Night Bird" cafe. The investigation is started by the son of a police legend and a "stubbornly right guy" named Ed Exley. Jack Vincennes, a collaborator on the police TV series and a snitch for the tabloid magazine "Hush Hush", also gets involved, thinking that it is still not too late to stand on the "right side".
