A collection of short stories and poems, intended for younger school age, and the winner of the "Grigor Vitez" award for 1969. It has seen numerous editions, partly due to the fact that its title story was included in the reading list.
The novel represents Tolstoy's adaptation of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi; he got the idea for the novel as a child, when he was read only the first part of the book, so he invented the rest himself.
In a realistic and child-friendly language, he describes with unusual humor even those mischiefs that require punishment, but still cause laughter.
The main character is the brave and good giant Jože, "strong as a bull, with a bushy head", who lives in the vicinity of the Istrian town of Motovun. The book was created on the basis of folk stories and folklore motifs.
