Winshawi su engleska ekscentrična obitelj, a među njima najviše Tabitha, stara gospođa koja je "otkačila" kada joj je u borbama u Njemačkoj za vrijeme Drugog svjetskog rata poginuo brat. Ona angažira pisca da napiše povijest obitelji. U knjizi se čuju i glasovi drugih Winsshawa gradeći tako "čudesnu obiteljsku sagu" na posve moderan način. Miks romanesknih žanrova – kriminalistički, humoristički, horor i obiteljski roman na tipično postmodernistički način i pred vama je ironična, kritičko-fikcionalna analiza stanja društva u Velikoj Britaniji krajem prošlog stoljeća, a čita se s lakoćom i užitkom.
