Sabrana djela A. P. Čehova #10: Drama bez naslova, Pisma

Anton Pavlovič Čehov

The story takes place on a country estate where a group of characters from different social classes gather, faced with boredom, unfulfilled ambitions, and emotional voids.

The central character is Mikhail Platonov, an intelligent but disillusioned and cynical teacher who simultaneously attracts and hurts the women around him. His relationships – with his former love, his married woman, his wife and other characters – reveal complex webs of passion, disappointment and moral indecision. Through a series of dialogues and conflicts, the play depicts the decline of idealism, the crisis of identity and the aimlessness of life in 19th-century Russian society. The characters are torn between desires and reality, often incapable of decisive action, which leads to tragic consequences. The work emphasizes the themes of lost illusions, missed opportunities and inner emptiness, which would later become characteristic of Chekhov's dramaturgy.
