Uvod u književnost

Uvod u književnost

Fran Petre, Zdenko Škreb

This Introduction to Literature aims to enable every educated lover of beautiful literature to approach a book or work with the most confident judgment possible and to more consciously understand certain artistic values that strongly impress them in it.

In order to reach as wide a circle of readers as possible, the authors of individual articles tried to express their thoughts as simply as possible, using specific scientific terms only in cases where this was truly necessary and where it served the purpose of the book. In addition, every term that could be assumed not to be generally known was carefully explained in the text itself or in the notes. The names and works of famous experts, the history of the science of literature itself and its individual branches, and even scientific polemics were collected in short summaries at the end of each article, while the text of the articles, according to the author and editor, had to remain smooth and readable. The work is the collective work of twelve authors, two of whom took on the task of editing the book. Since the authors were united by their long-standing joint work in the Croatian Philological Society in Zagreb, they were able to divide the work, the ideas from which it developed, without disrupting the unity of the books and without contradicting each other. Certainly, no single writer today could cover the subject of this book as broadly and comprehensively as the writers have attempted to do in their articles.
