Hrvatske narodne pjesme VI.: Ženske pjesme II. Pričalice i lakrdije

The sixth volume of the famous Matica Hrvatska edition, edited in 1914 by Dr. Nikola Andrić (1867–1942), is a collection of humorous, satirical and humorous women's folk songs (tales and farces).

While the first volume of women's poems brought romances and ballads, this second volume collects stories and farces – humorous, satirical, humorous and often erotically tinged folk songs sung or told by women. These are poems full of wit, irony, provocation, quips and social criticism, which relate to everyday life, marriage, relations between the sexes, mothers-in-law, husbands, infidelities, mothers-in-law, neighbours and similar topics. They represent one of the liveliest and freest parts of Croatian oral literature.

Nikola Andrić, one of the most deserving editors of this edition, collected material from different parts of Croatia, Slavonia, Dalmatia and Bosnia, systematically classified it and provided it with a preface. In the preface, he explains the meaning and value of these poems for understanding the folk spirit, mentality and worldview, especially the women's view of the world.

The edition of Croatian Folk Songs by Matica Hrvatska was the most important scientific project of collecting and publishing Croatian oral literature at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Andrić edited several volumes in it, striving to preserve the authenticity of the text, dialectal peculiarities and variants of the poems.

The book is today a bibliographical rarity, and represents an invaluable source for the study of Croatian folklore, women's oral literature, folk humor and social history. The humorous and farcical poems from this volume often stand out as one of the most entertaining and colorful parts of all Croatian folk poetry.
