The second novel in the Camino Island series. Bookstore owner Bruce Cable and the writers confront a murder in the midst of a devastating storm. A classic Grisham thriller full of suspense, literary world, and crime on an idyllic island.
Death in a Storm (2024) is the second novel by John Grisham in the Camino Island series, following The Lost Manuscript. The story once again takes place on the beautiful but mysterious island of Camino off the coast of Florida.
The main character Bruce Cable, a charming owner of an independent bookstore, is preparing for a big book launch for successful author Mercer Mann. However, the arrival of a devastating storm changes everything. After the storm passes, a murder is discovered on the island, and the local police, overwhelmed by the aftermath of the disaster, make little progress in the investigation. Bruce and his friends from the literary circle decide to investigate the case themselves, which draws them into a web of secrets, lies and danger.
Grisham masterfully combines elements of thriller, mystery and a vivid depiction of the literary world. The novel is rich with a tense plot, well-developed characters, and typical Grisham style – fast-paced, easy to read, and hard to put down.
Like its predecessor, Death in the Storm blends a love of books, antiquarians, and rare manuscripts with a classic crime plot. A perfect choice for fans of legal and crime thrillers who enjoy atmospheric locations and clever dialogue.
