As part of the church's ministry of the word, catechesis is faced with the long-recognized crisis of Christian speech in the contemporary world, with the crisis of the Church's message to the people of our time.
Widespread religious disinterest and practical disbelief, the identity crisis of many believers, the crisis of the process of introducing Christianity and transmitting the faith to new generations, the crisis of the credibility of the Church and Christianity, the gap between faith and life, the insufficient dialogue between faith and culture of our time are clear indicators of the fact that Christianity is not an attractive, convincing or significant reality, not only for many people today but also for many Christians. The reasons for this are multiple, and they arise from social, cultural, economic and political changes in the modern world, such as the globalization and pluralization of society, scientific and technological development, profound changes in the family, postmodern fragmentation and fluidity of identity, and from the changed relationship of today's man towards faith and religion, which is becoming one of many choices, often lived as a fleeting experience, tailored to one's own needs and less tied to institutions.
