Tamna noć

Tamna noć

San Juan de La Cruz

The classic of Christian mysticism, St. John of the Cross, describes the process of spiritual purification of the soul in which it, passing through inner darkness and apparent abandonment, reaches complete union with God.

The work The Dark Night of St. John of the Cross, a Spanish mystic and doctor of the church, is one of the most important works of Western spiritual and mystical literature. The book was created as a theological and experiential interpretation of the author's own verses, and describes the profound process of spiritual transformation that the soul must go through on the path to perfect union with God's love. John of the Cross breaks down the concept of the "dark night" into two basic stages: the night of the senses and the night of the spirit. In the first stage, the soul is freed from attachment to the material world and sensual pleasures. In the second, much deeper and more painful stage — the night of the spirit — a person goes through a feeling of complete loss of God's presence, spiritual dryness and inner emptiness. The author explains that this suffering is not God's punishment, but a necessary cleansing and transformation that removes pride and imperfections. Through superb lyrical expression and precise theological analysis, Dark Night provides spiritual encouragement and guidance to all who face inner crises, showing that darkness is merely a transitional phase leading to overcoming oneself and entering the divine light.
