Ovaj roman austrijskog pisca Gustava Meyrinka izvanredna je fantastična priča s višestrukim zapletima i neočekivanim završetkom. Uticao je na Kafku i njegov Proces.

Meyrinkov ekspresionistički roman "Golem" (1915), čija je radnja smještena u drevni praški geto, ujedinjuje stravu i humor, mistično i profano, u nevjerojatnoj mreži natprirodnih iskustava. Draguljar Athanasius Pernath susreće se sa svojom sjenom, neobičnom natprirodnom silom – Golemom - koji je, prema legendi, u davna vremena harao praškim getom.

Gustav Meyrink smješta legendu o Golemu u snoliki svijet “s druge strane zrcala” gdje je, kako kaže Jorge Luis Borges, “užas toliko opipljiv, da godinama ostaje utisnut u pamćenje”. Iskustva Athanasiusa Pernatha koja slijede iz susreta s Golemom, simboliziraju mistično putovanje do odgovora na pitanja o prirodi Boga i čovjeka.

Legenda o Golemu privlačila je mnoge pisce, među kojima i Isaaca Bashevisa Singera i Elie Wiesel. Meyrinkov "Golem" predstavlja najglasovitij u literarnu verziju te legende, prvi značajan ekspresionistički roman te jedno od najizvrsnijih djela fantastičnoga žanra.
