Beremizov svijet: Zbirka matematičkih avantura
"This is a nice little book in which the pleasures of mathematics are combined with wonderful storytelling. Reading it, you can almost feel the desert wind. You will hardly find this kind of atmosphere in any other mathematics book."
On his way back to his native Baghdad, young Hanak meets a stranger, who instead of greeting him addresses him with the words "Million, four hundred and twenty-three thousand, seven hundred and forty-five..." This is Beremiz Samir, a talented computer scientist from the Persian village of Khoi, for whom no one the math problem is not too difficult. Arriving in Baghdad, Beremiz becomes famous thanks to his wisdom, and his skill is constantly tested by the caliphs, viziers and other dignitaries. However, the Computer overcomes all difficulties with equal ease, and for his dedicated work he also receives the hand of the beautiful girl Telassim.
In his most popular work, Malba Tahan, which is the pen name of the Brazilian writer and mathematician Júli César de Mello e Souza, the lower stories about the Computer are fairy-tale like 1001 nights. But, apart from the magic of the ancient courts, each of these stories also brings mathematical puzzles or the interpretation of a geometric problem, and is therefore a real treat for all calculators and lovers of mathematical disciplines.
