1001 noć: Ljubavna i erotska lirika

1001 noć: Ljubavna i erotska lirika

One of the most important Arabists today, Esad Duraković, made sure that these verses were translated into our language with optimal respect for their original prosody and that their extraordinary beauty was preserved.

The verses in the masterpiece of world literature, in the stories One Thousand and One Nights, have an unusual fate. This is evidenced by the book that the reader is currently holding in his hands. Namely, the verses in this extensive work are relatively numerous, but for various reasons, in most translations of this literary monument into European languages, they were simply omitted, or they were rewritten in a completely inappropriate prose form.

Arab artistic genius was most fully expressed, for hundreds of years, precisely in poetry with strictly defined regular forms and refined connected verse. In this edition, for the first time, we present to our readers a selection of love and erotic lyrics, verses that have been transmitted orally and in writing for centuries, so that in the end they find their place skilfully woven into Scheherazade's narrative, becoming its inseparable part, reminiscent of the golden embroidery that subtly interweaves this truly monumental prose weave.
