Jimmy Higgings is a worker in a factory that produces weapons for Tsarist Russia and the German Empire. During World War I, Jimmy speaks at a spontaneous rally against the war. He is arrested, and when he is released, he is left without a job...

He is delighted by the news of the revolution; he volunteers to join the American Expeditionary Force, thinking that with weapons he can fight against the Germans - the enemies of the Russian Revolution. However, once in Russia, Jimmy soon realizes that the American Volunteer Expeditionary Force is not fighting against the Germans, but against the young socialist Russia.

Without the slightest hesitation, he embarks on the path of revolutionary struggle, spreading propaganda among American soldiers and distributing Bolshevik leaflets. Captured by the American military police, Jimmy Higgings does not betray his friends. He is sentenced to twenty years in military prison. Jimmy cannot bear it and loses his mind.
