Monsinjor Quijote

Monsinjor Quijote

Graham Greene

This novel by Graham Greene is a modern version of Don Quixote, set in post-Franco Spain.

The main character, Monsignor Quijote, is a humble priest from the small town of El Toboso, who sets out on a journey with his friend, the former communist mayor Sancho. Through their travels in an old car called the Rocinante, they have philosophical and political discussions about religion, communism, doubt and human nature. Their adventures, often filled with humor and absurdity, show the clash of ideologies, but also the strength of friendship. Through this story, Greene questions morality, politics, and spirituality, leaving readers with the question: where does the real truth lie?
