Cjelovitost nastave : didaktički problemi reforme škole
Vladimir Poljak’s classic pedagogical work from 1965, *The Integrity of Instruction* (*Cjelovitost nastave*), examines the methodological and didactic regularities, as well as the principles, of an integrated, coherent, and contemporary educational proces
The book Cjelovitost nastave ("The Wholeness of Instruction"), authored by the prominent Croatian pedagogue and didacticist Prof. Dr. Vladimir Poljak and published in 1965, stands as a foundational work in domestic pedagogical literature. In this text, the author addresses one of the most critical questions in didactics: how to transition from fragmented, compartmentalized teaching toward a holistic, meaningful, and integrated educational process within schools. From both theoretical and practical perspectives, Poljak analyzes the principle of "wholeness" in instructional practice, emphasizing the importance of connecting subject matter—not only within individual subjects but also across different subject areas (interdisciplinarity). The author examines in detail the structure of a lesson, the teacher’s role in planning and conducting instruction, and methods for enabling students to develop a comprehensive understanding of natural and social phenomena, rather than merely accumulating isolated, narrowly focused facts. Characterized by a clear style, a systematic methodology, and a profound grasp of the psychology of learning, this work served for decades as an essential textbook and guide for generations of teachers, educators, professors, and students of pedagogy. To this day, Cjelovitost nastave remains an exceptionally relevant testament to the development of Croatian didactic thought.
