Nights in White Satin / Cities
A vinyl single by the British rock band The Moody Blues, featuring the songs "Nights in White Satin" and "Cities," which combine a melancholic atmosphere, emotive vocals, and the signature sound of symphonic rock.
The Nights in White Satin / Cities single is a vinyl record by the British rock band The Moody Blues, one of the most influential groups in the development of progressive and symphonic rock. These two tracks represent the band's signature musical style from the second half of the 1960s.
The A-side features the legendary ballad "Nights in White Satin," written by Justin Hayward and originally released in 1967 on the album Days of Future Passed. The song is distinguished by its melancholic atmosphere, expressive vocals, rich arrangements, and the characteristic sound of the Mellotron. Its lyrics explore themes of love, longing, loneliness, and emotional insecurity. Over time, it has become one of the most famous rock ballads of all time.
The B-side contains the track "Cities"—also from 1967 and written by Justin Hayward. This song features a livelier rhythm and a more pronounced psychedelic rock sound, creating an intriguing contrast to the atmospheric ballad on the A-side.
This single serves as a fascinating artifact of the musical culture of the late 1960s, a period when rock bands began experimenting with orchestral arrangements, more complex compositions, and introspective lyrics.
It is particularly appealing to vinyl collectors, classic rock enthusiasts, and fans of The Moody Blues.
