Die Handlung spielt im Sarajevo der 1970er Jahre. Die Hauptfigur ist Džemal, ein Mann mit fünf Beinen, der mit einer Anomalie geboren wurde – einem fünften Bein, das aus seinem Rücken wächst. Džemal ist von der Gesellschaft isoliert und sieht sich den Vorurteilen und Ängsten der Menschen um ihn herum ausgesetzt. Sein Schicksal wird zum Symbol des Kampfes gegen Ungerechtigkeit und Intoleranz.
