Honore de Balzac
Onore de Balzak (1799–1850) jedan je od najznačajnijih francuskih realističkih pisaca. Rođen u Turu, studirao je pravo, ali se ubrzo posvetio književnosti. Njegovo monumentalno delo Ljudska komedija (La Comedie humaine) obuhvata više od 90 romana i pripovedaka, u kojima je realistično prikazao francusko društvo 19. veka.
Balzak je poznat po izuzetnim analitičkim veštinama, detaljnim opisima i psihološkoj dubini likova. Među njegovim najpoznatijim romanima su Otac Gorio, Evgenija Grande, Izgubljene iluzije i Slava i beda kurtizane. Bio je plodan pisac, opsednut poslom, često je pisao noću uz velike količine kafe.
Uprkos finansijskim problemima i iscrpljujućem načinu života, ostavio je neizbrisiv trag u svetskoj književnosti. Njegova dela su inspirisala mnoge autore, uključujući Flobera, Zolu i Dikensa. Umro je u Parizu 1850. godine, ostavljajući za sobom opus koji ostaje temelj realističkog romana.
