Kula od peska

Iris Murdoch

The Sand Tower follows young Mora who, in search of love and stability, enters a whirlwind of relationships full of illusions, self-deception, and emotional weaknesses, while trying to find her own identity.

A Tower of Sand Iris Murdoch brings an intense story about Maura, a young woman who desperately yearns for love, but at the same time runs away from it. After a series of disappointments, she decides to marry a middle-aged school inspector Bill, convinced that this stability will bring her the peace she seeks. But Murdoch quickly reveals that Mora's security is built on fragile foundations, like a tower of sand that can be knocked down by the first wave.

Forgotten passions, former relationships and emotional debts soon creep into Mora's life, preventing her from leaving the past behind. Each encounter with people from her old life opens new cracks in her marriage and forces her to question her own motives. Murdoch masterfully creates a gallery of characters full of contradictions, who serve as mirrors for each other's anxieties, desires and unspoken truths.

The novel progresses like a psychological puzzle in which Mora's choices gradually reveal themselves as an attempt to escape from herself. The Sandcastle stands out for its lively atmosphere, subtle humor, and deep analysis of human weaknesses. At the heart of the story is the question of whether love can truly provide refuge or whether relying on someone else's love is just another illusion crumbling under its own weight.
