Kraljević i prosjak

Kraljević i prosjak

Mark Twain

The King and the Beggar is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful children's historical novels.

The main characters are boys, and the plot itself and the subsequent unfolding of the story are completely in line with the poetics of children's literature: improbable, but not impossible: intricate, but not unfathomable, and, most importantly, tense and exciting. In this novel, with the skill of a true master, Twain reconstructed the atmosphere of England from the 16th century, marked by the end of the reign of the English king Henry VIII. and the beginning of the reign of his son King Edward VI. Thanks to Twain's talent, the novel The King and the Beggar is a fun, action-packed children's novel, and at the same time a great portrait of an era.
