Der Ich-Erzähler und Hauptdarsteller Dražen Lasta, ein überempfindlicher Intellektueller, erzählt die Geschichte seiner Familie und seiner unglücklichen Liebe. Schauplatz der Handlung ist die bosnische Stadt Travnik, wobei neben der psychologischen auch die soziale Motivation einbezogen und die Kriegsatmosphäre als wichtiges Element der erzählerischen Szenografie eingeführt wird.
