Pjesme

Antun Branko Šimić

A selection of poetry by the most important Croatian modern poet. Šimić was the leader of expressionism in Croatian literature, and his poetry is characterized by strong emotions, original expression and philosophical reflections on life, death and art.

The collection includes anthology poems such as Pjesnici, Opomena, Smrt i ja, Moja preobraženija and Herzegovina, which reflect Šimić's preoccupation with human existence and transience. His style is characterized by short, concise verses, free rhythm and expressive images that emphasize the inner state of the subject.

The foreword was written by Marijan Matković, while Dragutin Tadijanović, as editor, provides final notes and chronologically contextualizes Šimić's work, highlighting his innovation and influence on later poets. The attachment also contains eight art pieces, then available photographs and portraits of A. B. Šimić, as well as a reproduction of the cover of Preobraženija, made by Šimić's friend Sava Šumanović.

The book is essential reading for poetry lovers and those who want to understand the deep symbolism and aesthetic value of Šimić's expressions.
