Naropa

Naropa

The book depicts the life and spiritual journey of the great Indian Buddhist scholar and mahāsiddha Naropa (1016–1100), a key figure in the transmission of Tantric Buddhism from India to Tibet.

Naropa was a brilliant scholar at the famous Nalanda University, but he abandoned his intellectual pursuits to follow the mystical teacher Tilopa. He endured twelve major and twelve minor ordeals, symbolizing the breaking of ego and attachment, leading him to enlightenment. Through this journey, Naropa developed the teachings of the Six Yogas of Naropa, advanced meditation techniques central to Tibetan Buddhism.

The book details his journey, the teachings he received and passed on, and his influence on the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. His teachings emphasize devotion to the teacher, direct experience of truth, and the transcendence of dualistic thought, making him one of the most important figures in the Tantric tradition.
