Kako sam postao faca

Kako sam postao faca

Arijana Čulina

You have to be smart, a sycophant, cunning, you have to have power, wear designer clothes, have your own business, you have to be rich, have a girlfriend, go to the gym.

You don't have to answer the phone, you can't show that you care about anything... in short, that's, as the chapter titles of the novel "How I Became a Big Deal" suggest, the formula for success for a man in his 40s, who lives and works in Croatia. Written in the masculine gender, the novel tells the story of Srećko, a young man who decided to succeed at all costs. Srećko, an intellectual who was unattractive, polite and attentive to everyone, decided to turn the page. Because of his nice behavior, he didn't get along well in male society, and he didn't do well with women either, who preferred bad men with banjos and furious motorcycles. He began his social transformation with small steps: he would cut corners everywhere, he started to lie a little, then flatter himself because he saw that human qualities didn't go over well with others, then cheat, steal... Everything worked out for him and took him to the top of the social ladder.
