August Cesarec

An autobiographical novella in which Cesarec describes his experience in prison, emphasizing the psychological and social aspects of being in prison. The novella emphasizes the strength of the spirit in the fight against injustice and loyalty to one's ide

Through the main character, who is directly connected to the author, the inner struggle of a man who refuses to submit and lose his dignity is shown, despite prison conditions and repression.

The title symbolizes the end of the road, that is, the moment when an individual faces the consequences of his beliefs, but also his own conscience. Despite isolation and suffering, the character maintains ideological firmness and faith in justice, fighting against inhuman conditions, bureaucracy and prison cruelty.

The work is permeated with realism, with detailed descriptions of prison life, the psychological states of prisoners and relationships between people. Cesarec depicts prison not only as a physical space, but also as a spiritual arena in which character is tested. Motifs of defiance, hope and inner freedom run through the narrative.
