Emil i detektivi

Emil i detektivi

Erich Kästner

A popular children's novel, which emphasizes the importance of friendship, teamwork, courage, and honesty, and is one of the first children's novels to portray children as resourceful and active participants in real life, rather than passive characters fr

Twelve-year-old Emil Tischbein lives with his mother in the small town of Neustadt. His mother sends him to Berlin to stay with relatives, taking with her the money she had entrusted to him. On the train, Emil falls asleep, and when he wakes up, he discovers that his money is gone. Suspicion falls on a suspicious man in a black suit who was in the same compartment.

Emil does not want to go to the police because he is afraid of embarrassing his mother. Instead, he decides to track the thief through Berlin himself. In this endeavor, he is helped by a boy named Gustav with his trumpet and a group of children who organize themselves as a real little detective network. The children take on different roles - they follow the suspect, report information and work in shifts so as not to lose track.

After an exciting chase, they discover that the thief is called Grundeis and that he is trying to exchange the stolen money in a bank. Emil and his friends, with the help of adults, manage to expose him and hand him over to the police. The police praise Emil's courage, and the money is returned to his mother. Emil becomes a hero, and his story ends happily, and they are full of pride for the success they have achieved together.
