Blaga Dimitrova

The novel "The Detour" follows the encounter of two former lovers - Nada and Konstantin - who meet again after many years and set off on a car journey together.

The plot is set in a short period of time, but through the conversations and inner monologues of the characters, their past is revealed. They were once in love, but life has taken them on different paths: Nada became a scientist, rational and disciplined, while Konstantin remained freer, adventurous and unadapted to social norms. During the journey, a symbolic “detour” occurs – not only on the road, but also in their thoughts and emotions. They remember their youth, face missed opportunities and question their own choices. Their meeting raises questions about the meaning of life, the compromises they have made and what it means to be true to themselves. In the end, although there is still a strong emotional connection between them, it becomes clear that they cannot go back to the old ways. Each of them continues on their own path, enriched by a new understanding of themselves and their past.
