Pippi, whose full name is Pippi Longstocking, is a nine-year-old girl who lives alone in the Rainbow Mansion with her horse and monkey, Mr. Nilsson. Her father, Captain Ephraim Longstocking, is supposedly the king of the South Sea Islands, and her mother is an angel in heaven. Pippi is extremely strong, can lift a horse, and is rich, owning a trunk full of gold coins, which allows her to live without adult rules.
In a small Swedish town, Pippi befriends the children Annika and Tommy, who are fascinated by her unusual behavior. Together they go through a series of fun and unpredictable adventures: from clashes with thieves, to refusing to attend school, to organizing chaotic picnics. Pippi confronts authority figures, such as teachers and police officers, always with humor and goodwill. Her free-spirited nature and unconventional approach to life arouse admiration, but also concern from adults.
