Gavranov graktaj

Gavranov graktaj

Dubravko Marijanović

The sixth collection of haiku poetry by a contemporary Croatian poet was published simultaneously in Croatian and English (English translation by Nikola Đuretić and Saša Važić).

Marijanović's haiku works are characterized by all the features that characterize a deeply experienced and mature haiku poetry. The four cycles of the collection coincide with the four seasons. The watchful eye of the poet registers everything, even the most subtle and imperceptible shifts and changes in the natural environment: in the plant and animal world, in the human environment. The subject of the poem becomes everything that is observed, be it even the smallest detail in the landscape or in some human gesture. This is how haikus convey to the reader the intoxicating scent of linden trees, the splendor of cherry blossoms, the glare of the sun, the murmur of rain, the hum of bees, the touching effort of a girl writing a poem, the cawing of a raven...
