Svetozar Pribićević u opoziciji (1928-1936)

Ljubo Boban

One of the essential features of Pribićević's politics is the continuous process of transformation and improvement of attitudes and concepts. He followed the circumstances around him, in the country and abroad, and often reacted directly to them, expresse

Ljubo Boban's book analyzes in detail the political activities of Svetozar Pribićević after the assassination of Stjepan Radić and the introduction of the Šestosiječan dictatorship. The monograph is based on rich archival material and provides an insight into the transformation of Pribićević's political thought from centralist positions to the advocacy of federalism and democracy.

Boban shows how Pribićević, the leader of the Independent Democratic Party, became one of the loudest critics of the royal regime, especially after the adoption of the Octrorated Constitution and the suppression of political freedoms. The book deals in detail with the key events of that period, including the Zagreb punctuations, the Marseille assassination, the Petoma elections and Pribićević's foreign policy activities.

Special emphasis was placed on Pribićević's emigration, during which he continued his political struggle against the dictatorship from exile in Paris and Prague, writing works such as "The King's Dictatorship" and "Letter to the Serbs", in which he advocated the equality of peoples and the federal organization of Yugoslavia. The book ends with an account of his last days and death in 1936 in Prague.
