Fran Kurelac

Fluminensia or something on the River spoken, sung, translated and based on Fran Kurelec, an old Ogulinac native of Bruvno in Krbava. At the expense of Bishop Djakovački. In Zagreb, Antun Jakić in 1862.

In the book Fluminensia, Kurelac collected speeches, translations, songs and proclamations from the Rijeka period.

Fran Kurelac (Bruvno u Lika, January 14, 1811 - Zagreb, June 18, 1874), Croatian writer and philologist. After not finishing high school, he attended lectures in Italian and French at universities in Prague, Vienna, Pest and Bratislava, and as a self-taught person he knew all Slavic and numerous other languages. He studied the life, customs and language of the Croats of Gradišća and collected folk songs. He is the main figure of the national revival in the Croatian littoral. Since 1849, he has been a teacher of the Croatian language at the gymnasium in Rijeka. For Bach's absolutism, he was dismissed from the service. From 1861 to 1866, he taught the Old Slavonic language at the Đakovica Lyceum and French at the Zagreb Real Gymnasium. He studied the Croatian language and literature, published old texts and dealt with etymology, and was the founder of the Rijeka Philological School. He became a member of JAZU.
