Zlatarovo zlato is the first novel by August Šenoa, written in 1871. It is also the first Croatian historical novel, which tells about the history of Zagreb in the sixteenth century (after the Gupceva Peasant's Revolt).
The book presents a comprehensive overview of the economic development of Osijek over eight centuries. The work is based on historical sources and scientific analyses, providing insight into economic conditions from the Middle Ages to the modern era.
