Grga Novak je bio posljednji hrvatski polihistolog i jedan od najznamenitijih Dalmatinaca dvadesetog stoljeća. U devedesetogodišnjem životu stvorio je golem i raznovrstan opus. Najznačajnije su mu knjige Naše more, Prošlost Dalmacije, Predhistorijski Hvar i Povijest Splita.
