The Poetics of Noise is a comprehensive anthology edited by Goran Rem, a literary historian and poet from Osijek. The book brings together works by 105 Slavonian authors written during the Homeland War (1991–1995), mainly in Slavonia and Baranja.
In Croatia, pacifist poetry appeared as a strong response to war violence, and emerged from the depths of suffering as a form of resistance to war and violence. At the same time, this poetry expressed uncontrolled anger and hope, intuition and memory.
Evacuation brings a selection of short stories that address war, displacement, and post-war trauma through various authorial poetics, and features, among others, Darijo Džamonja, Semezdin Mehmedinović, Vladimir Pištalo, Miljenko Jergović, and others.
