Toma varalica

Toma varalica

Jean Cocteau

The main character of the novel is a young man who falsely presents himself as Prince de H, and under this identity enters high society.

They call him Trickster Tom, and even though he is a fraud, his charm, courage and unusual honesty win over everyone around him. He does not cheat out of selfishness, but out of a desire to fit into the world that fascinates him. In the background of the story is the Countess de Dampierre, a woman from high society who organizes help for the wounded and whom Toma joins. Both move between Paris and the front, which the author uses to show the contrasts between the glamor of social salons and the horrors of war.
